A lot has been made recently of the advantages that Wall Street enjoys. From high frequency trading to faster news releases and insider trading, Wall Street certainly has a step up on individual investors. As Morgan Housel points out in Your Last Remaining Edge on Wall Street, individual investors do still have an edge of their own; and it’s a big one. We get to plan for the long-term and accept the bumps and ride them out, enjoying the higher returns that they bring. Wall Street has to bet when the bumps will come and go and how bumpy it will be. Our philosophy is centered around accepting this advantage by investing for the long-term and not playing into Wall Street’s hand by trading the same ups and downs that they do.
