Charlie Lawson, CPA

Professional Biography
Charlie Lawson, serves as the Director of Tax Services as part of the Carlson Capital Management team as well as with CCM Tax & Trust Administration, a commonly-held affiliate of Carlson Capital Management. In this role, Charlie provides strategic and operational direction for the firm’s tax services and for the tax practice and compliance operations of CCM Tax & Trust Administration. Charlie also works closely with the CCM advisory team to deliver clients fully integrated wealth management services, lending his experience to proactive tax-related planning. Charlie plays a lead role and helps to oversee the preparation, review, and completion of individual and trust tax returns and tax projections. Charlie participates in client meetings, and serves as a tax resource for clients, both individually and collaboratively with other advisors, to develop customized recommendations.
Prior to joining CCM, Charlie served for five years as accounting manager for a St. Paul CPA firm. In this role, he advised affluent clients in general financial and tax planning in addition to providing tax compliance services—preparing and reviewing individual, gift, and fiduciary returns. Prior to that position, Charlie worked as an audit/accounting supervisor for another Twin Cities firm, where he was responsible for the overall servicing of business clients in one of the firm’s key niche sectors. In this role he worked closely with business owners, consulting on activities including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis. He began his career in the banking industry where he prepared financial reports for trust accounts in the retirement services area. Charlie is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of CPAs.
Charlie is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis on finance, investments, and banking. Charlie is a former board member of the United Way of Hastings. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time in the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. Charlie and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Hastings with their three children.
